On March 2, the JEI held a grade assembly for Class of 2023 in Room S101, South Building, under the theme Seize the Critical Period of Life in This Era! The assembly was led by Counselor Hou Junhan, with all Class of 2023 students in attendance.
Technological Empowerment: Insights into Future Trends
Hou began with key educational, technological, and talent deployment initiatives from the 20th National Congress of the CPC, the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee, and the National Education Conference. Using examples of HEU's AI-Empowered Smart Teaching 2.0 Era and the widespread adoption of DeepSeek across national universities, he elaborated on the dialectical relationship between technological development and youth growth. Through analyzing the global impact of DeepSeek technology and China's AI development strategy, he demonstrated the inevitable trend of intelligent transformation with typical cases, including Foxconn's robot coordination, BYD's power battery defect detection, State Grid's power transmission early warning system, Geely's intelligent interaction upgrades, and agricultural blockchain tracing.
Building on Integrity: Upholding Academic Ethics
Regarding academic integrity, Hou emphasized the importance of both academic and examination ethics. He clearly instructed students on the proper use of AI, strictly prohibiting the complete AI generation of any academic works, competition entries, or research papers, warning of serious consequences including disqualification and permanent record. He also introduced appropriate ways to utilize AI in academic work, such as literature review assistance and document proofreading. On examination integrity, he cautioned students against cheating through past cases, urging them to maintain honest examination practices.
Collaborative Symbiosis: Building a Harmonious Community
The assembly also focused on interpersonal relationships among students. Hou addressed the existence of small groups within classes and dormitories, advising students to maintain a proper perspective on competition and treat peers with sincerity. He warned against creating divisions, discrimination, or targeting others, emphasizing that an inclusive, caring, and open mindset is essential for building a harmonious one-stop student community. He encouraged positive academic competition and mutual progress in research, papers, and academic performance.
Strategic Planning: Mapping Career Pathways
Regarding academic planning, Hou emphasized that the current semester represents a crucial watershed in academic progress. He explained that while grade improvement might be challenging, opportunities still exist, advising students interested in postgraduate recommendations to continue improving their academic performance. He particularly stressed the importance of scientific innovation, using examples of students with high academic rankings but lacking research achievements to illustrate the impact of scientific innovation on postgraduate opportunities and future development.
In career planning guidance, Counselor Hou used both his own and students' experiences to explain the importance of having graduated, focused, and parallel career development plans. He advised students to focus on both academic performance and scientific innovation while preparing multiple career paths to avoid setbacks from single-goal failures. He recommended most students to seriously consider studying abroad as a primary option, encouraging early planning and preparation.
Finally, Hou announced the activation of multi-level academic supervision, reminding students to avoid tardiness and skipping classes. He encouraged them to utilize their time effectively in understanding academic matters such as postgraduate recommendation policies, scientific innovation opportunities, and graduate study options to support their personal development.
This grade assembly comprehensively guided students' development, covering key areas including technological applications, academic integrity, peer relationships, academic planning, and career development, laying a solid foundation for students' growth in the new semester.
