The 2025 International Youth Innovation Camp in Ocean Science and Technology, Hainan, initiated by the Southampton Ocean Engineering Joint Institute at HEU and co-organized by the Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Administration and the Nanhai Institute of HEU, was held in Yazhou Bay, Sanya City, Hainan, China from March 30 to April 5.

This camp was driven by project-based learning, promoting academic discussion and exchange between student project groups, and incubating international research outcomes of university students. The activity fcused on fields such as acoustic engineering, energy, control engineering, and maritime research. Through free academic exchange, it broadened the horizons and thinking of domestic and international students, jointly proposing valuable thoughts and solutions for technological progress in the marine field.

On the afternoon of March 30th, 33 students from Harbin Engineering University departed from Harbin and were the first to arrive at the hotel in Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, Sanya. The students swiftly completed check-in procedures, and each group engaged in brief discussions to plan their schedules for the upcoming five-day camp activities, preparing for cultural and technological exchanges.

To ensure participant safety, Dr. Du Shixin from the organizing committee held a safety orientation for domestic participants in the hotel's Ruyang Conference Room that evening. He outlined the activity schedule, safety protocols, and cross-cultural communication guidelines. Dr. Du emphasized the importance of following safety measures and respecting cultural differences during international exchanges. The briefing strengthened participants' safety awareness and emergency preparedness for the upcoming activities.

Later that day, 28 students and faculty from the University of Southampton arrived in Sanya and checked in with staff assistance. Students from both universities mingled in casual discussions, creating opportunities for initial cultural exchanges and forming new friendships across borders.

These preparations have set the stage for successful camp activities and lasting international friendships. Throughout the program, participants will collaborate through lectures, forums, and site visits, expanding their horizons while strengthening cross-cultural communication and teamwork skills. This camp serves as a platform for international exchange, fostering innovation partnerships between young talents and developing globally-minded innovators in marine technology.
