The Joint Institute held a training session for dormitory mental health liaisons on Wednesday, November 27th, at 4 PM in classroom S101 of the South Building. Professor Zhang Zhongyu, Director of the Psychological Counseling Center at Harbin Engineering University, was invited as the main speaker to provide comprehensive and targeted mental health guidance for mental health liaisons from the classes of 2023 and 2024.
The training, themed Safeguarding Our Mental Well-being, aimed to help mental health liaisons better fulfill their fundamental roles in risk screening and daily companionship through professional guidance. Drawing from his extensive frontline counseling and teaching experience, Professor Zhang provided clear explanations of the liaisons' responsibilities, daily work, and self-care practices. He particularly detailed professional techniques such as art therapy, sandplay therapy, mindfulness, and hypnotherapy.
During the training, Professor Zhang emphasized the types of students that liaisons should pay special attention to in their daily work and shared typical cases of psychological crises, providing the trainees with more intuitive understanding and coping strategies for potential crisis situations.
Additionally, the training covered methods for monitoring students' psychological states through daily study, life activities, and social media, along with detailed instructions on how to report potential or ongoing crisis situations.
We extend our gratitude to all dormitory mental health liaisons and staff members who participated in this training. The College will continue to improve its working measures, enhance the professional capabilities and service quality of mental health liaisons, and strive to create a caring, loving, harmonious, and warm campus atmosphere.
