On the afternoon of November 13, a successful information session on postgraduate studies in Hong Kong and Singapore was held in Room S301 of the South Building. The event, jointly organized by the Joint Institute International Exchange Association and the Vision Career Workshop, featured education consultant Jan Tam, who provided detailed insights into overseas study opportunities for Joint Institute students. During the hour-long presentation, Tam delivered an in-depth analysis focusing on four major themes: pre-application preparation, master's program introduction, application documentation, and visa procedures.
During the pre-application preparation segment, Tam provided a comprehensive overview of the educational systems in Hong Kong and Singapore. She highlighted the growing trend of Hong Kong universities establishing mainland campuses, cautioning students about the importance of degree recognition when selecting campus locations. Regarding Singapore's education system, Tam analyzed the distinctions between public institutions (such as the National University of Singapore) and private institutions. She noted that while private institutions primarily offer British and Australian university degrees, they present advantages including flexible enrollment periods and language test exemptions for certain programs. Importantly, degrees from both types of institutions are generally recognized in mainland China.
In the application materials section, Tam methodically explained the preparation requirements for 16 different application documents, emphasizing key materials such as academic transcripts and language proficiency scores. She provided detailed information about application fees and submission deadlines. During the visa application portion, Tam outlined specific application processes for both regions and offered professional guidance on crucial matters such as financial guarantee preparation.
The interactive Q&A session saw students engaging in detailed discussions with Tam about work experience documentation requirements, differences between full-time and part-time programs, and admission requirements for research-based master's programs. For students interested in pursuing doctoral studies, Tam shared relevant application strategies and recommendations.
The session proved highly beneficial, helping students not only understand the specific procedures and requirements for studying abroad but also gain clearer perspectives on their future career paths. This information-rich sharing session opened up clear pathways to prestigious universities, making overseas study aspirations more achievable for attendees.
