On April 24th, the Joint Institute held a UK Study Tour Experience Sharing and Summer UK-Australia Study Tour Briefing in Classroom S301. The event was hosted by Counselor Fu Yipeng, with presentations from Counselors Du Shixin, Ma Xuan, and Fu Yipeng. Student representatives Chen Jiahao, Tang Guo, and Du Jiayi also spoke. Counselors Hou Junhan and Xu Xinhang, along with several students from the Joint Institute, attended the briefing in person, while some parents joined online.
Chen Jiahao shared his study tour experiences and the impact it had on him, encouraging everyone to participate actively in study tours. Tang Guo presented details about the itinerary, content, and his personal reflections, providing a summary of his study tour. Du Jiayi recounted his initial explorations in the UK, the intellectual heritage of Oxford and Cambridge, his study experiences at the University of Southampton, and his in-depth interactions there.
Fu Yipeng introduced the background of the 2024 Summer UK-Australia Study Tour, emphasizing the collaboration with prestigious universities in the UK and Australia. He explained how this practical activity helps students gain a better understanding and discernment of foreign educational systems. Fu detailed the study tour’s content, including the schedule, locations, costs, and requirements, as well as providing information on the participating universities. He also outlined the necessary preparations, key deadlines, visa requirements, and subsequent requirements and costs.
Du Shixin discussed the destinations of the first group of students, sharing real cases of studying abroad and postgraduate entrance exams. He guided students to reflect on their motivations for attending university. By comparing the time, financial costs, difficulty of admission, and employment competitiveness of studying abroad versus domestic postgraduate studies, Du explained the reasons for choosing to study abroad. He provided tips on how to prepare for studying abroad, highlighting key application factors and the importance of enhancing one’s background and crafting compelling application documents. Du urged students to awaken their awareness, actively explore themselves, and participate in practical activities to clarify their goals and ensure successful employment.
Ma Xuan analyzed the current state of domestic postgraduate education, pointing out the bottlenecks in postgraduate education reform recently highlighted by the central government and state authorities. He introduced the integrated industry-education model for training master’s and doctoral students. Using data, Ma illustrated the increasing difficulty of postgraduate entrance exams in 2024, noting the high scores, emphasis on comprehensive abilities, and high elimination rates. He outlined changes in the selection criteria for postgraduates and key considerations. Ma shared his own study abroad experiences, underscoring the significant benefits of studying abroad. By comparing domestic postgraduate studies and overseas advanced studies, he provided students with clearer career planning. He advised students to understand themselves clearly, work hard to address their weaknesses, and strive for well-rounded development.
This event aimed to help students clarify their career planning goals, understand the requirements and processes of study tours and advanced studies abroad, and encourage active participation in study tour activities. It is beneficial for fostering students’ international and diverse cultural perspectives and thinking habits, enhancing their understanding and discernment of foreign educational systems.
