JEI Hosts UoS Graduate Programmes Information Session

On September 6th, the Joint Institute convened an information session on the University of Southampton's graduate programmes in the S101 lecture hall. Zhao Yan from the Joint Institute’s Academic Affairs Office hosted the event, with a keynote presentation by Professor Dominic Hudson, the head of Ocean Engineering at the University of Southampton. All students from the 2021 Class in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering and Marine Engineering, as well as part of students from the 2020 and 2022 Classes, attended. 


Professor Hudson introduced Southampton’s campus locations and its global rankings, highlighting that the university ranks among the top 100 worldwide and is a member of the Russell Group. He provided an overview of the university's offerings and detailed the structure of the Ocean Engineering group, focusing on its composition and research areas. The group, noted for its extensive research projects and collaborations with various institutions, is equipped with advanced laboratories. Professor Hudson highlighted the group's student research achievements and awards, enriching the attendees' understanding of Southampton’s capabilities in Ocean Engineering. He elaborated on the structure, credits, application prerequisites, research topics, language requirements, and scholarship opportunities of Southampton’s MSc and PhD programs. The session ended with a Q&A, where students posed questions and Professor Hudson offered in-depth responses. 


This information session deepened the attending students' understanding of the University of Southampton and its Ocean Engineering graduate programs, clarifying the institutional framework and detailing the study abroad process and requirements. Students gained clearer insights into their future academic and career paths.
